RED ZEBRA CICHLID

The Red Zebra Cichlid, or Metriaclima Estherae is a beautifully vibrant mbuna species, hailing from Lake Malawi. Similar to other inhabitants from this lake, an aquarium set-up with sand and rocks are appreciated, where this species will cohabit with other mbunas. Growing to a size of approximately 4 inches, they are difficult to sex males can display red tinged stripes. Breeding is especially rewarding, the mouth brooding behaviour means that females hold fry in their mouth for up to 20 days before releasing in a cloud of fry. While omnivorous and accepting a wide variety of flake, pellets and live foods this species does well with a higher proportion of vegetables in its diet.
