The Gold Laser Cory is a relatively newfound species relatively scarce in the aquarium hobby; however, they are in high demand due to its colouration. It is a very animated, distinctively marked schooling fish that is perfect for the nano, community or planted aquarium.

Gold Laser Corys are very popular in the aquarium hobby due to their hardiness, easy-going nature, and ability to clean up the tanks' bottom.

These fish are peaceful and sociable and make a great addition to the community tank. These Corys would be best housed with small to medium sized tankmates such as Rasboras, Danios, Tetras, or a species tank for breeding objectives. They enjoy the company of their own kind so therefore should be kept in groups of five or more individuals.

Gold Laser Corys have a yellowish-brown or greenish-yellow body-colour with yellow fins. They possess a yellow to gold shoulder stripe that starts at the head's base and ends at the caudal peduncle. They have a darker green midbody band that runs along the fish's entire length to its tail and a gold blotch on the operculum.y and are larger than males.

Origin and Habitat

The Gold Laser Corydoras is a freshwater species of catfish derived from Colombia.


A relatively small bony-plated catfish that do not have scales, called scutes. Their 3 barbels are sensory organs that help detect nearby enzymes in order to identify and find sources of food - capable of detecting food up to 15 feet.


pH, dH & Temperature Range

A pH between 6.0 - 7.5, low to hard water levels between 2 - 20 dH and a temperature range of 72º Fahrenheit (22.2º Celsius) and 77º Fahrenheit (25º Celsius) are the optimal water conditions for a Gold Laser Cory.


It is highly recommended to have well oxygenated water while maintaining a regular water change schedule. Also, a poorly maintained and dirty substrate can cause disease.


Gold Laser Cory Diet and Feeding

What does a Gold Laser Cory eat? Being omnivorous, the best sources of food for the Gold Laser Corydoras that are high in protein consist of blood worms, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, insects and daphnia. High quality tropical flake food should also be another regular source of food. They will also feed on plant matter, while blood worms being a favorite!

A Gold Laser Corydoras size when mature is between 6.5 - 7.5cm (2.5 - 3 inches) in length.

Tank Mates and Temperament

Gold Laser Corydoras are a peaceful and social fish that are best kept in groups of 6-8 or more. They will group with others within the Corydoras species and even Clown Loaches. Also, ensure that there is enough décor, rocks, wood and plants so that they feel at home in order to reduce stress.


Ideal tank mates for the Gold Laser Cory are those that are not bottom dwelling aggressive fish such as some species of cichlids or other aggressive catfish.


Gold Laser Cory Lifespan

The average lifespan of a Gold Laser Cory is between 3-5 years in well maintained aquariums. However, they can live much longer in well kept aquariums.

Differences between Male and Female

How do you tell the difference between a male and female Gold Laser Corydoras? It can be quite difficult to determine the gender, the only notable difference is that females have a rounded belly and are larger than males.
